The Verdict
After reviewing all of the options for home IPL systems, I believe that the SmoothSkin Gold is one of the best devices on the market.
It’s unique ‘Detect and Set’ feature, takes all the guesswork out of selecting the right intensity setting for your skin tone. This unique feature makes it safer and easier to use than other models on the market. SmoothSkin Gold also boasts faster treatment times than its rivals, with the bulb taking less than a second in between flashes times on the highest power setting.
Although it lacks the convenience of a cordless device, one of the advantages of having a mains powered device is that you can treat your entire body without worrying about it running out of charge. In some instances, some users found the cord length too short, but in my experiences using the device I have never found this to be a problem.
Another complaint some people had was that they found it harder to use on small, bony areas like the upper lip because you have to make sure that the contact points on each side of the window are in contact with your skin otherwise the device won’t flash.
